Plato hits Australia in Congress elections

Day 2,469, 23:03 Published in Australia Australia by AwesomeSal

Leaders of the parties, their members and candidates would have got a shock when they signed in today to find out that the party tickets have been culled and one of the major parties has been left with no candidates at all.

What started out as an exciting opportunity to have a big congress this month has now turned to many scratching their heads in wonder. There are two different things at work here and one of them is fair game to a point although Plato (the game deity) has taken it to an extreme level.

1. Region losses

One of the touted benefits of the Finland exercise was to increase the number of regions that Australia could gain. This provides many bonuses such as tax revenue and expansion benefits, but as it applies to congress it provided us with the option to expand the house to more than the 10 seats we've had the past couple of months.

We no longer have those region numbers and at present we are down to two. Even so, that still means we should have the opportunity to elect 20 members of congress .

2. Congress list glitching

There is a known but unexplained phenomenon going around. On the final day before voting, candidates miraculously disappear from their party ballot papers. Parties have every right to feel wronged and even cheated out of their right to contest the elections and the electronically incarnate Romanesque philosopher (whose name I won't mention!!) has a bit to answer for here. Will they own up or make it right? No. Of course not silly. That would be doing the right thing.

What are we left with?

Going through the list we might as well end up with a 10 seat congress because the total number of Top 5 party candidates won't make 10 let alone 20 and that means the congress total will be exhausted out to the nether regions of space, completely unelected.

We have 2, Democrats have 2, ARP have 2 and the ALF have 1, APP have none.

On a party note, it can't be ignored that the mysterious "game glitches" will be beneficial to the Government as the system wiped out 66% of our ticket. Thanks to eRepublik interfering with the election system, democracy takes a back seat this congress election.

Looking at the plus side congratulations to Louise and F0rse7i who will become members of the next congress. You will both do a great job holding the Government to account.

Onward to the CP election!
