PORTUGAL PEACE TALKS
Today, President Scrabman sat down with President Arthk of Portugal to discuss the future relationship of our two countries. The Peace Talks started today on a good note with each President meeting in the IRC for about an hour and having a very friendly, yet frank conversation.
Each President has decided they want a peaceful resolution to this current situation, however President Arthk has stated that his country isn't quite comfortable with a fully peaceful resolution at this time because of two main points:
1) The actions of the US in past administrations; One main concern of the Portuguese Congress are the attacks on France and Mexico in the previous few months. They would like to take these Peace Talks slowly and not jump into an official agreement at this time.
2) The second point comes as a logical business strategy. President Arthk does not want to end the open War with the US at this time because Portugal does not have to pay the monthly fee for renewing several MPPs with current alliances. As long as the War is till open, their MPPs are kept locked without having to renew each month, thus saving them 240 gold per month.
President Scrabman and President Arthk want to begin the steps towards the ultimate goal and as a gesture of good will, President Arthk will be giving the Northeastern Territory back to the Mexicans shortly. This will leave Portugal out of North America and will leave their only open border, that of which to attack us, as Florida. Florida is a natural border in the eRepublik game as it borders Florida with their homeland.
Both Presidents also noted that War is not an option at this time because of the US's 9 MPPs and it would be illogical for Portugal to attack our homeland.
The first of many Peace Talks between our two nations came to an end on a friendly note with both countries agreeing that we will reach our ultimate goal in a matter of a few month's time, if not sooner.

These peace talks have been a long time coming, congrats on taking the first steps.

As an FYI, they can also attack Georgia, for what that's worth. I know PT residents know this, but most US citizens might not know or care.

@Everyone: I didn't say this in the article and I don't feel like going back to the org, so I will just comment here: I believe that Portugal plans to give the Northeast Territory back to Mexico this week. So the Peace Talks are moving along very swimmingly.

I'll miss the good Portuguese wine smuggled across the border into the USofA, but that's a small price to pay if it would end some of Portugal's colonial ambitions
