Long Road Out of EDEN

Day 862, 14:36 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

While nothing is final yet it appears that the United States will be officially leaving EDEN. Over the past few days congress has debated a proposal made by President Piginzen to leave EDEN and early indications show that congress will have the votes needed to pass the proposal. There are still a few hours left for congressmen to change their minds, however given the serious nature of this vote and the amount of time spent debating we aren't likely to see much vote changing.

The departure of the U.S. from EDEN opens up the door for the Broliance to become an official alliance and play a role in world events. Currently the Broliance is made up of nations including the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and Australia and due to those nations being in EDEN (except Ireland) the alliance has been symbolic more then anything. With the U.S. out of EDEN though, the entire situation changes. Now Canada and Australia can both leave EDEN without having to worry about being left out in the cold if the U.S. were to decide to stay in EDEN. Now that the U.S. will likely be leaving, it will soon be time for Australia and Canada to make their decision on whether or not to stick with EDEN which will be much more Euro-centric with the U.S. gone.

If these three nations were to depart then EDEN will be demoted to more of an European regional alliance rather than a super alliance. With no member nations based outside of the continent it will become much more difficult for EDEN to stage operations outside of Europe. With the loss of Canada and Australia they will also be without high titanium once V2 comes out which will make it harder for them to produce the new V2 weapons. In order for EDEN to get high titanium they will have to find a way to get to South Africa or fight their way through Russia, both are very unlikely now that EDEN's strength will take a bit of a hit.

Still EDEN will likely have the advantage in numbers over the new Broliance. The four likely members of the new broliance will only have a combined population of about 36,000 citizens while Poland alone has close to 60,000 (although a lot of those are newbs or inactive). In order to gain more credibility in world affairs the new alliance will likely have to expand to include a few more countries. It isn't very likely that any of the European EDEN nations will split however South America will be a ripe target for new Broliance nations after the previous regional alliance down their has dissolved.

The Broliance could also survive without expanding but it would require that the alliance stay on good terms with other alliances just in case EDEN were to try to get revenge on the U.S. for leaving and invade the east coast. Most Americans are also hoping that some EDEN nations will be willing to keep MPPs open with the United States. This would provide the U.S. with some protection as well as give EDEN a little more strength should PHX take a shot at one of their countries. It would also deter EDEN high command from launching an invasion of North America since it would activate wars between alliance members if they had MPPs with the U.S.. Right now its all talk though as it's hard to predict how other countries will react to the news, all we can do now is sit back and watch what happens.
