Just a thought

Day 801, 06:19 Published in Poland Croatia by adrianne_666

I am an Eden citizen. I always has been and always will be. I rejoice when I see enemy lands conquered or our own lands reclaimed, and curse when we fail to do so. I do my modest share in influencing to world business by striking in the right places in the right time alongside with my military unit. Sometimes when I get excited I write an article, but that is about it. I trust the big picture to the strategists at Eden Headquarters, and to this point I have had no major disappoitments. Some minor lapses happen, but they prove our nations are still commanded by humans. Sometime we lose because the enemy was stronger, but that proves our nations are still opposed by enemies worth of challenging again and ultimately outlasting them. These tiny fractures are however vastly overpowered by the brilliant strategies, excellent game-reading and tremendous military operations. And so I have been happy to be part of this giant structure, fighting and playing for the cause I feel is right.

I’ve played this game for 16 months and seen a myriad of events leading to rises and falls of virtually every nation. I know a thing or two about game mechanics, and I’ve been tremendously excited to see the huge rise of Poland and their mutual campaign with Spain in Western Europe and all the possibilities this advance and unifying the Eden nations open for us. But in the verge of victory nothing happens. France is left to rot in Corsica, leaving the MPP😒 to haunt Spain and prevent them to try any more significant military operation than suffocating the puny RW😒 in meaningless regions. UK, threatened by invasion for months, got finally a taste of the sweet revenge Eden bears to them, but it was nothing but a ridiculous shadow of the epic war what was promised. Poland, launching the UK-MPP😒 can today do nothing else but sit back behind Spain and wait. The reappearing of Germany and the nuicanse called France prevent Spain and Poland from attacking, making the invasion of UK nearly impossible to execute properly.

And at the same time strange voices are heard from the Balkans.

In these times of agony, when the most interesting event in the world is banning or unbanning some prominent figures, battle-hardened souls from all over the world cry for blood. Romania, a fallen superpower decided in the early phases of the Asian campaign done by USA, that their nation needs a new spark. A new goal. And the goal was found from Turkey and beyond.
Everyone in the world shook their heads. It is not possible, they said. Romania is but a shadow of their former might. But the doubters had to rethink their expectations about the Romanian campaign after a staggering tank operation raised the Romanian flag at Marmara, Turkey, where Romania stood against 12 MPP😒 alone and won.
But finally the bubble bursted, Gold was strained and regions vanished. No nation has succeeded in wiping out a country with a full stack of MPP😒 alone., and Romania was no exception. After Romania was driven back to their original regions, Phoenix ignited a daring attempt to destroy Romania, but again, no nation has succeeded in wiping out a country with full stack of MPP😒 alone. Hungary was defeated after they were forced to defend their iron colonies, and Romania reclaimed their regions.
But Romania was offended. They felt they weren’t helped enough by Eden, but that story is so long it can not be rewinded in this article.

With the activated MPP😒 Romania conquered Bulgaria again, and the dream to conquer Turkey soldiered on. No moves were made as the border region was controlled by Pakistan, with which Romania didn’t had an open war. Serbia came to rescue the Bulgarians, and won Romania in Sofia. Romania blamed the Alliance, and it has led to the tragicomedic diplomatic incident which was culminated today by the Romanian president by declaring a sort of NAP, which means Romania wont be helping Eden in expanding their borders with the exceptions of themselves and Croatia.
This is sad. Eden is fracturing over seemingly worthless regions of Bulgaria, but the real stake here is the Romanian identity and pride. Two things which should be handled with intensive care.

Goals are achieved by taking advantage of the game mechanics. Enemies wont fall if you shout at them, you have to have a realistic plan and resources to execute it. Romania didn’t possess a good plan. If they really would have wanted to stay in Plovdiv, they would have RW:d Sofia to cut Serbia off. Possessing Sofia was liability from the day one, as Serbia is a stronger nation. And the initial plan was bad, but it brought us unexpected treats. Romania babyboomed, and they now possess a MPP-sledgehammer against Hungary, something you can not buy with money. But what was the initial plan?

Kill Bulgaria alone.
Destroy Turkey alone.
Wipe out Iran alone.
Welcome to Asia.

It would have not worked in any circumstances. Romania tanked down two +1mil-walls. They can not do it ten times. No nation can. Keeping up the false hope of doing it was selfish and unwise for the alliance, and they should’ve get rid of it.

Eden’s objectives should be strenghtening the members equally, but to get the most benefit. Strenghtened allies can gain the upper hand and destroy the enemy.

Weakening Phoenix nations in Asia while gaining resources for allies and invading Western Europe to control the vital strategic chokepoints are profitable, realistic and desirable goals. Pushing Romania through 3 Phoenix nations alone is not. They should understand this and work as a team instead of thinking too much for themselves. Romania isn’t of course the only nation to make strategic mishaps, Greece let their MPP😒 drop before they were signed again and USA bluntly let Hungary and Russia to form a safe ring around HLJ, but having a biased view on alliance’s priorities is something worth fixing.

“It is a decision that has been taken against a leadership and a system that starts to be based on personal interests and not strategical interests, on fighting battles because some people are friends with other people, not because they are important in the big picture, on a system where some countries are more important than others and some countries have to lose for others to gain. ”
- andyr, the Romanian president

Sometimes you lose some to get some. Everything is expensable, no territory is sacred. Hungary proved it by cold-heartedly retreating their hard-earned Romanian regions after their attention was required elsewhere. This is a lesson for Romania to learn. Sometimes losing territory can open a whole new set of possibilities. Who knows, maybe we’ll praise our superiority of losing the Bulgarian regions two weeks from now after they’ve played a key role in a new military plot.

Helping another will pay off eventually. The laws of building a land bridge involve three nations, two major powers and a “catalyte” nation to let the another big nation to pass through the first one’s regions without igniting a war between the major powers. Serbia and Iran were major powers, Pakistan was the “catalyte”. It would serve Romania’s interests as well to unify Western Europe with North America to create a bridge.
