1. Please, define erepublik in one word.

Community

2. How did you decide to create eR?, why did you think it could be a success?

Initially it was based on our passion for Civilization and the internet. Yes we always hoped it would appeal to others as well, but of course we weren't sure so its always amazing for us to see that players still enjoy it 7 years after.

3. In your opinion, why eR is interesting for players?, despite the changes, could you tell us what is the essence of the game that should always be preserved?

The key is the sandbox approach and the fact that we focus on giving the community tools to play with.

4. For all this time, do you think has been a problem complement a social game based on creation/preservation of communities with a business based on need of generate profits?

Of course it is always a delicate balance to keep and sometimes we made mistakes by not monetizing enough (that puts the continuity at risk) or monetizing to much (that is good in the short term but bad in the long term). Still overall the fact that eRepublik is still around after 7 years when many other games a copies aren't means that we got more things right than wrong.

5. What is your opinion on the current situation of the game?, are you satisfied?, why?

We are never satisfied with the game, that is what is great and also really hard with this type of game, there is always something that needs to be balanced or something we want to improve.

6. Do you have an active feedback to incorporate suggestions from players to the game? Could you tell us about any change incorporated to the game suggested by players?.

Yes we do, the forum for update announcements for example is very useful to fine tune changes, but we are more and more using player feedback much earlier in the process. The last big feature changes for example are rolled out progressively to a few players only before we extend them, we did this with the chat function and are doing the same with a new battle page.

7. What are you looking at the next change of eR?. A more friendly interfaz to compete with another online games?, To Implement other activities of the RL in the game (jail, bank or civil war)?

Short term we would like to look at parts of the game that have focused less on like media or politics, we are also always looking at ways to improve and balance the economy but that is particularly hard to do. We are also doing small UI tweaks constantly.

Let’s talk about critics

8. One of the most common criticisms is the huge gap of military power between visa and no visa players and between new and old players. What is your opinion? Do you think is an issue than should be solved?.

The gap is actually more between new and old players, its virtually impossible for a visa card player for example that would start today to catch up a non paying player that started playing 2 or 3 years ago. This is something that you see in many other games that are pay to win, and shows that we are not pay to win. This and the fact that one or a few paying players alone can't defeat a well organized military unit over the long term unless they themselves cooperate with other players.

9. Two years ago, coordination by IRC was essential, players shared and knew each other at channels, however, today exist CO’s. Despite its benefits, do you think CO’s are opposite to collective game and destroy communities as consequence?

I don't really have an opinion on this, what I can say is that IRC was quite intimidating for new players.

10. Campaigns are essential on a game of strategy. However, too many wars have as consequence monotony and lack of epic and motivation. What is your opinion?

The epic motivation was there at the beginning, but perhaps once turkey has beaten Greece a few times and vice versa then the motivation goes down for a while, this means that the game is a little cyclical. We try to change this a little with tournaments and are happy for any other suggestions on this front, one community suggestion I recently saw was to reshuffle resources every 6 months, its something we are considering.

11. One of the problems of the game are the bugs. Can you tell which way are you working to fix those problems ?.

We have a dedicated team for these of about 3 people, we are solving more and more of them and the game is a lot more bug free than it used to be, but its also very complex so there will always be a few bugs here and there.

12. “Plato, fix the economy”, must be the most common Shout at eR. Do you think is an issue? are you thinking to introduce some changes to solve the problem?

Its become a bit the new "pertamax" when we held a rlf community meeting to discuss this issue, nobody could agree on how to "fix the economy", but we don't take it lightly we tried a first step with the houses where you can't work as a manager and are looking at other ways where we can improve this. So yes, its an issue.

About the current game

13. Do you know the current status quo in the game? Do you know how it evolves the e-world or news about alliances and/or e-countries?

The community team is, I'm not always 100% up to date, it depends.

14. Do you remember some remarkable military campaign or a player with high strategic skills to share with us?

I remember when France invaded the USA only to loose it all within a month.

15. What is your opinion about e-Romania?. What do you think about players that say admins favor to eRom with their decisions?.

That its nonsense, the admins support the game ecosystem, not a specific country or player, that is all they care about, the game in general and that all players enjoy it.

16. South America has many active players. However, countries like Uruguay and Paraguay have few original regions. Among the short-term priorities, is it possible to add more regions to some countries?

This is a really hard one that doesn't really have a good answer.

17. Finally, any messages to chilean and south americans citizens?

Thanks for the interview.

Thank you!
