How Can Plato Earn More by Enliving the Economy
William Thomas Riker
Have you noticed how certain visa players advertise packs for eRepublik currency, and that is great for people who don't want to spend RL money, but have plenty of currency? But have you ever asked yourselves why would visa players go out of their way and help others? After all, those packs were designed to give the visa players an advantage over the rest of us. Seems kinda counterintuitive. Let's break it down.
Most of the packs can only be bought once in a month, or even rarer. But following packs can be bought in any quantities, and donated to others:
Current going price ratio is 5€=75kCC. Current gold to currency ratio is 1:475. Visa player can sell a pack, and over a period of time convert 75kCC into ≈158 gold. So a visa player bought 158 gold for 5€. Gold to euro ratio is greater than 30:1.
Now, let's check ingame gold purchase options. Best value is 300 gold for 100€. Let's throw in the occasional "get 50% more gold" offer: 450 gold for 100€. Gold to euro ratio is 4.5:1.
Do you see now why visa players prefer to buy and sell packs instead of simply buying gold? So, it is a safe bet to say visa players buy surplus packs instead of gold. So why keep the "buy gold" option? Well, visa players can't find that many potential pack buyers. But that could change.
In my last article, eRepublik Needs a New Deal, Not New Updates, I boldly proposed bringing back local currency, among other things. My prediction is: since global currency would be divided in 74* local ones, their prices in gold would chnage, mostly grow. Meaning: gold prices would fall, maybe even plummet depending on the currency. For example, countries that have low percentage of players winning TP and FF medals would have less currency flowing around, and its price would grow compared to gold. Some currencies would become scarce, at least before individual countries get the chance to print them in larger quantities.
*Small countries could be given a choice to keep currency from one of major powers, just like in RL, to prevent banktrupcy.
Visa players don't care about the gold-currency ratio, as long as they get 30 gold for a euro. Most of them use gold to buy Energy Bars in order to keep winning medals. By reintroducing local currencies and forcing countries to print them to keep their economies up and running, we could effectively lower the price of gold payed in local currencies. Visa players would be forced to lower pack prices in currency to the same level (still earning the same amoung of golg, though).
Aside from actually bringing a part of economic module to life, and keeping people more interested in playing it, there is one major point: more people would be able to buy packs with currency from visa players. Even more so if they are actually skilled and can earn more in money exchange. Visa players wouldn't miss the opportunity to accomodate the growing need (for now, they still need more gold than they can make selling packs, that is why the option to buy gold still exists), so they ould buy more packs, which, in turn, means more profit for Plato.
You get a pack! You get a pack! Eeeeverbody gets a pack!
And cherry on the top: remember economy wars and sabotages? I'll stop writing here, I will just tell you that the existence of local currencies will enable those.
Do you, eRepublik Community have the guts for the great unknown?
I'm sure if enough people lobbied like this, Plato would agree.
Let's summarize:
- bring back local currencies,
- price of gold falls,
- more people buy packs,
- visa players get more gold,
- Plato gets more euros,
- part of economy jumps into existence,
- players able to earn money via exchange
- economy wars and sabotages become relevant again
- more people have fun due to packs, economy, earnings and sabotages.
I know I would be the first in line to regularly buy packs if I could afford them. Not to mention I came here mostly because of the past economy module.
Live long and prosper!

but what if pack prices were -50% ??
https://www.erepublik.com/gr/article/more-packs-half-prices-2651517/1/20
Nice analyses.
I remember the times where gold was around 55cc. And yes there were local currencies.
I remember when it was under 30.
And I remember when it was over 3k
I remember when we thought the rise to 30 was going to be temporary. I think back then the normal price was around 8-12. At least in CAD.

More people would buy/sell packs if there were an official pack market where they didn't have to worry of being scammed. The admins said in an interview they had considered it but their legal department advised against it. Maybe it's time to hire better lawyers.
I said one time about that, that sellers should be able to buy packs in stock to plato (one, two.... or more if they want), and put them in a new market sections, where everybody can buy them, with the price the seller set. Like any other product.
Looks like a you want to create syndicat against visa players 😃 if erep will bring back local valute and gold is around 100cc what will happen with players who have 1k gold in their acc and some cc 😃 even if gold/cc change visa players will pay 1 euro for 30 gold, yes we will pay less cc but we will win less cc because prices of tanks and food will decrease
p.s sorry for my english
Luckily for those who have 1k gold, there is no limit in buying CC. They could sell all the gold for CC and later buy more gold.
Prices of food and weapons will not decrease, those were actually higher during the existence of local currency.
If all will sell their gold for cc price of cc will go down for 1 hour.
Price of tanks always is 18-22 tanks per gold so price will decrease.
Pack buyers use cc not only for bars, they set CO lot of times so even CO will have less cc
Um, where did you attend your Economy 101, lesson "Supply and Demand?" If they sell their gold and buy CC, CC will become scarce and its price will go UP, not down. Product prices will, therefore, decrease in CC, but increase in gold.
Less CC for CO? So what? Build better country economy, get allies. Believe it or not, people used to work theri asses off to win battles, not to pay CO with Visa for mercenaries.
That is the whole point: Visa players can pay to be biggest tanks, but not to win battles. People win battles, not money.
Yes you have right for first part, i forgot a part of market which i never use 😃 buing cc with gold , but pack buyers will pay again 1 euro- 30 gold, yes less cc but where we can win cc? selling our gold right? again we need to take medalls to recover cc to buy another pack
Yes, 1 euro fod 30 gold, I don't understand why you keep repeating that cause that won't change in any way.
Actually, that IS how people buy packs. They get 1000 CC from each of the TP and FF medals. So, no change there either.
local cc will change raport between gold/cc and cc/food/tanks but will not be easier to buy pack because if 1 gold will be 30 cc FF and TP are like 33 gold so admins will change it
p.s problems of erep are 1 side damage like in TWO ally time others they cant fight them, only way to save this game is to have 2 side of alliances with same damage and admins cant do this

Nice article!! I was discussing a similar subject with my fellow countrymen some days ago
Less currency for a pack? In my view the packs are already sold too cheap, even if the ratio is correct.
Too cheap? Lol, it's basically an exploit. Instead of buying 25 gold for 10 euros, you buy a pack for the same price and then you sell it for 300 euros!
300 gold*
local currency was a pain in the a$$ to deal with.
economy war must be balanced on the other side by investment, trust,... which will never happen.
game is just f*cked up with countries having unlimited CO, and VISA players having unlimited damages, deal with it.
as for today there is no stability, no war supplies, no troop morale, and even the less no need of border to attack a country to counterbalance military war.
another option, remove packs
I'm trying to sell Plato an idea he would like (the one that makes him money). If I wanted to go unrealistic, I would propose server reset and going back to V1.
Of course, Plato could remove packs, and try to keep er open with donations xD

perhaps if they made it like all stuff here meaning you can travel and buy in another market. but small countries would be prejudiced by perhaps empty monetary markets.
That is why I wrote this:
"*Small countries could be given a choice to keep currency from one of major powers, just like in RL, to prevent banktrupcy."
That would idd be wise, "dollarization" would be the way for half of the world (or should be). Then it could make more sense this change.
So what happens when all pack buyers and players get into 6 countries so that their gold price doesn't fall and all other countries see their gold prize fall because of low activity?
I suggest you read my last article I linked in this one.
If you are talking about differences in currency ratios, then you are in error. One does not need to move around to gain a particular currency, although the ones which want to profit on monetary market will have to (to gain larger quantities of a particular currency).
If you are talking about medal income, than there is a solution: optional progressive taxation. Smaller, weaker countries could have lower tax rates and therefore attract some of the players from more powerful countries with higher tax rates, become tax heavens. Just like IRL.
It's all explained there in detail.
What will happen with combat order?
If medals continue giving 1000 CC, absolutely nothing. Tanks will continue farming to have CC for CO.
Or shall it be in gold?
Ask Plato.
I'm all for buying paks in bulk and being able to donate them.. be a lot faster on sale days.
Packs = useless and overpriced s**t... IMHO... 😛
You said the word 'economy', lul.
don't think it's going to happen 🙂
