Here We Go

Day 1,656, 15:59 Published in Canada Canada by Nosyt

Awhile ago I became interested in the word common. If you think about it there’s a few words that sound similar, like commune, communism and other neat stuff. Etymology is a side hobby of mine, so I looked into the word’s origin, and the best thing I could find was a Latin word communis, a word which I found had a few definitions. One that stuck out was simply something shared. Thinking of all the words that originate from this, that basic definition tends to live on in each one. The geeky rant is hemi-relevant; I’m hoping to run for President in a few days, and in this article I want to talk about communication and community.

Communication is kinda a biggy that I believe gets overlooked every once and awhile. Erepublik alone offers numerous communication methods. Private messages, group messages, our 3 feeds as well as the infamous ‘article’. Aside from we have the meta-game, forums, internet relay chat, skype, podcasts; literally a plethora of communication methods. Getting back on track, when it comes to communication from the government, a few standards exist. People like it when there’s an up-to date article with battle orders available 24/7. MU Captains and Commanders are often drawn into a series of group PMs where national battle priorities, as determined by the executive, are delivered straight to their inbox.

My hope is to establish a new standard pertaining to executive articles. Typically, we expect the president to release an article every now and then to let everybody know how things are going and what they can expect. The frequency and efficiency of this varies from president to president; some people just really like to write, while others may dislike it, to say the least. What I would like to see is articles published from a government organization, not a citizen’s account, primarily because I feel it’s important to have a consistent and centralized source. To that end, I’d like to work on revitalizing what was once known as the eCBC. I’ve begun working on assembling a team of writers who would work together to publish an article every 2 days that contains information on what’s happening in eCanada, what’s happening in the e-world, as well as updates from the executive government and other important information. It’s a simple project, but something I’d definitely be interested in pursuing.

I’ve often heard the argument that this is a war game, and that’s not entirely untrue. War has always been the biggest motivator for gold buyers, the admins realized this and made developing that module a priority. That being said, strategy currently relies on one’s ability to coordinate where damage is spent and making use of appropriate timezones. To put it bluntly, if it’s a “war” game you’re interested in playing, there are far better alternatives. What’s kept me in the game, is the countless interactions that occur here. Not only observing the cause and effects of what happens, but occasionally being directly involved in the action. The stronger the community is, the more of those interactions we see, and the more enjoyable the entire erepublik ‘experience’ becomes. I enjoy building things, while others enjoy breaking things Both of which I’d argue are equally entertaining, but building lasts a little longer, albeit it takes more effort.

It’s a tad cliche, but I like the quote 😉
So I’ve ranted on about what entertains me here, but I’m interested in what it is that motivates the rest of you and why. What is it that makes you tick, and what can be done to help?
