Geography with a mathematician

o7 and wot

With our recent glorious annexation of Vestlandet into the eGreat eBritish eEmpire I came to notice something a little strange about the geography in these parts

As an opener, here is a google maps image of SvalBard and Jan Mayen (and also a bit of Norway).

And now, let's look at an eRep map.

So what's the mixup?

Well you'll notice that on our eRep map, the island of Jan Mayen is purple because we own it. But how do we own it if we have not taken Svalbard and Jan Mayen? The eIsland of Jan Mayen comes under the territory of Vestlandet.
Now, this doesn't really bother me, I was mostly just curious. I do wonder though, why have a region called Svalbard and Jan Mayen when actually, it's just Svalbard? Why have a region called Vestlandet when actually, it's Vestlandet and Jan Mayen?

Asking the big questions, one poorly formatted article at a time.
