Erepublik - place for personalities or just ordinary human beings?
chebbba
Some time ago we had a discussion with a close friend of mine Erwin Schauman about how to define a good leader. What qualities do you need to become one? Are there anyone in the world except for those so called 3% of "real managers" from world population?
And when it comes to Erepublik. How many times people in every erepublik country complained about not really "strong leadership"? How many times people were fooled by someone who had his way with words, but when it came to making a decision this CP was not able to prove his point or ruled his country to a big black hole of economical and political disaster and boredom?
Let's face it: the only way of getting in power in eRepublik is writing inspiring articles, pretending you are a smart troll in comments and going everywhere with a "u jelly?" face. Someone can say that everyday monotonous work one day can make people notice you, but who wants Cinderella in a president chair? Or better yet: have you ever seen Cinderella (aka modest, smart and sweet-tempered person) in charge?
Apparently, eRepublik, being a game that makes us project our real life intentions here, just proves that ordinary people (2-clickers) mostly chose the one who is not the brightest star in the universe. We usually go for the star which willingly comes to our hands, stays there and annoys us with it's presence till we finally decide to put it in the sky to shine our way. Forgive me this pretty g*y comparison, but this is how I see it. Erepublik "personalities" (aka guys in charge) are usually those who come and TAKE the power, without asking you and your opinion, and leaving the impression of a 'free choice'. This is how it usually happens IRL as well and let's not start a discussion about democracy since we all live in pretty
My point is that there IS sense in complaining about leadership since people are weak and can easily be forced to do what they don't really want. We are just like that. They say "don't complain about me, you chosed me", but how did I chose you? They say "you knew my skills while chosing me", but hey, you weren't THAT bad back then
😃
Erepublik is probably the only real-life simulator where you can go the other way and it sincerely surprises me why no one even tries to be independent and rational and is driven by emotions. Why should someone go the way he was forced then there is also your own, personal way?
Just to let you know: real leaders don't play browser games. They have way better things to do in their real life. Like creating a browser game and making you play it in spite of all the pain and suffering it brings to you
🙂
My conclusion is simple: there are no leaders in eRepublik. There are those, who know the rules and follow them, and in addition getting in power for several, pretty individual reasons. And every time you feel like being just a 2-clicker and not a "personality" just say "screw you, you are just like me. The only difference is you have this shiny CP medal in a browser game, and this doesn't matter at all, since in the end I am the one who is pushing the "vote" button".

true
True, it saddens me that accountability is lost in most media in this game. Everyone just posts booby pictures and crap to get their ideas across.
What Dan said 😁
Lovely article as always 😘
However a simpleton I am failed to follow the logic leading to the conclusion. In my opinion, you imply and mix up two pretty different definitions of "a leader", first being a person who has skills in inspiring, managing and manipulating people and the latter being a sinonym of an outstanding personality.
The game probably could use some more dudes of the first type, however you exaggerate their absence. Erep is all about social interaction and it attracts such people by flirting with their ambitions. However to be an outstanding personality having leadership skills is required but obviously insufficient. What makes a leader teh Leader is his style and that's what bla-bla-bla-bla-bla a cowboy and a giraffe walk into a bar nyah-nyah this is too gay to continue I'm out...
P.S. Creating this browser game is a way worse thing to do with your life than playing it.
Nice & clever article & deduction!
@ Mogaba:
"In my opinion, you imply and mix up two pretty different definitions of "a leader", first being a person who has skills in inspiring, managing and manipulating people and the latter being a sinonym of an outstanding personality."
Well, this game has limited options. You rarely can see a real personality (in sense we put in this word IRL) of a person behind his lines. In most cases it is absolutely impossible, so naming someone a "personality" in game in my opinion means recognizing the influence this person has in this particular game. Ofc it includes skills you mentioned.
"P.S. Creating this browser game is a way worse thing to do with your life than playing it. "
Well, I heard that Lemnaru is a spineless worm when it comes to being able to do great presentations, he mumbles and not really a leader, as for Bonte - he's much better and leaves an impression of a person who knows exactly what he wants. But both of them, in spite of these characteristics, were able to find the right "direction" to make a pretty succesfull game for 3 years. Everyone is a nationalist deep inside, everyone wants to have power. Erep gives us it. So is it really worse to create a game where we all can show our true faces? : ) Or where we all can be better than we are IRL?
I can haz hugg? :>

interesting opinion. however i cannot agree with it fully. leader is the one who makes road when there is no path, leader is who can solve the problem, leader is who can give the other a hand when he needs. leader cannot be everyone, but leaders may be don't even know they are such till when it happens. but then the leader has to prove he is leader by making the necessary decisions, which may be not popular. in this game there are such inspiring persons behind nicks and they easily can unite the people, because they DO have qualities
I request a russian translation of this article as well as some comments published in Russia 😁
An unbelievable article to say the least.
