Epic moments in aviation - Part 4

Day 2,683, 10:21 Published in Romania Argentina by L E V I A T A N

Once again we're here, ready to enjoy some of the situations the pilots have to face in their day by day, so let's go! If you missed the third part click on the following link Epic moments in aviation - Part 3

This 4th part will contain some pics related to anothers in the previous parts, It's advised to review all of them to understand everything!

(images are not in full size so you don't have to wait to much to see all the pictures, if you want to see it bigger, just click the one you like 😉 )

1 - Sonic boom

We're looking at this Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet at the exact moment it breaks the sound barrier at about 1234,8 km/h; the effect is known as "sonic boom" for this reason.

2 - The little brother

Actually "little", I present you the Antonov An-124 its size goes to 69 meters length, 73 meters of wingspan and it can take off with a maximum weight of 390Tn (the An-225 goes up to 640Tn). This is from where the engineers of Antonov bureau took the idea to create what is now known as Antonov An-225 the big king of the sky 🙂

3 - It's hot here, can you turn on that fan?

We're looking at one of the four Airbus A-380 engines and thanks to our friend there we can realize its size! believe me, you don't want to be close to that when the pilots turns it on.

4 - Close enough?

We're looking at this General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark while performing a very close fly on that building, I wonder how many pants were changed that day!

5 - Low fly and near sonic boom

The pilot of this McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet decided to wash its airplane in a very uncommon way. This was in an event performed by the acrobatic squadron known as the "Blue Angels" and you can see the video here.

6 - The other face of Saint Marteen

We're back at Princess Juliana airport in an uncommon view from the other head of the runway. The pilots have to take off and head left or right because there's a mountain few kilometers after the airport.

7 - Surveillance over the NFL match

This Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bomber performed a fly by over the stadium as part of the show. You can see the video here.

8 - Dust runway? no problem

I present you the Boeing C-17 Globemaster a versatile military cargo aircraft designed to land almost everywhere, be it dust, dirt or tarmac surfaces. You can see it in action here.

9 - No room for error

We're back in Saint Barth, home of one of the coolest and dangerous airports in the world. The main runway approach is located after a road and a hill, so the pilots have to fly through this obstacles and then quickly go down because the runway isn't very large. You can see the day by day of this airport here.

10 - Air refueling

Ever wondered if an aircraft could fly without landing to refuel? well the answer is yes! there are airplanes modified to act as air tankers, this birds carry a massive amount of fuel so they can supply another aircrafts in the air in just a few minutes. They usually refuel fighters but there are cases in which they supply big cargo aircrafts as seen both in the picture and here.

Well, whe came to the end, sadly. But fear not! the next part will be a special one, so brace yourselves and stay tunned!
