eCanadian Wasteland
Quim B. Muffins
eCanada has become a wasteland. Once published, this will be one of only 3 (check that, 2) articles in our media. What happened to public discourse? Has Rydle's comstant political dominance, numbed (dumbed?) everyone to the point of two-click zombism? Is this game finally broken? What's the point? Discuss:

Geezus we lost an article. Now down to two.
I forgot to log on for the first time in over a year yesterday. There really isn't much to do except for the same old boring clicks.
I am not sure why I log in any more. Habit? Stupid stubbornness? Neurosis?
I log in because I want to be the last survivor
That's how to win this game... right?
no no no... http://www.erepublik.com/en/get-gold/gold is how you win this game.
Plato killed the last module keeping everyone interested
https://forum.erepublik.com/index.php?/topic/4077-dictatorship-community-wasteland-and-apathy/
Great minds think a like.
Rylde's boorish behavior is not the problem. Admin killed the game with the poor implementation of the dictator. Instead of offering something new and different they forced all but the strongest countries to become dictatorships to protect themselves. This destroyed what little active community there was because now Congress is meaningless.
Rylde is a boss
more to do with the game being totally utter shite, lets all just add each other on steam and all play euro truck simulator lol
I'm already hitched and on my way to Frankfurt!
wait that game has multiplayer?
Yeah man, google that shit
Over/under on when the game dies? 6 months? A year? Never?
I'm only here because I'm the only one who knows where the light switch is.
I shall be the one to feast on all your bones.
people keep complaining yet theyre all still here
As long as they aren't buying gold lol. Plato dies a slow death.
Morbid fascination.
Why do people stare at a train wreck as it happens? Why do you turn to look as you drive by the accident on the side of the highway? Why did the media put up the same images of 9-11 for weeks? Why are there fifty "Reality" TV shows?
Face it, there will always be those who like to watch bad things happen. I know that the majority here are still playing 'A' game, they are the ones that still have community here. I suppose there are a few who only service the fight button to get some sort of thrill. Only the truly strong see it for what it is and determine that their time is better spent on other pursuits.

of course. the fun left a long time ago. this foolish rylde mess was just the last nail in the coffin. Sure, he bled the last bit of joy out of the game, but, at least there's still fun to be had. I think its brilliant that a dude living in squalor still finds the need to waste his kid's money just so he can be the pretend ruler in what is arguable the worst online game ever conceived. That alone is worth logging in as far as I'm concerned.
Harsh words but they ring of truth. I suppose the cash I've wasted here could have been put to better use. I suppose I've become a cynic. I know there are good people helping others but when I see millions of dollars of food and medical supplies being confiscated on the docks in Somalia while millions are starving just a few miles away I pause. Where did my $100 to the relief effort go? Mogadishu did not love me for my generosity. Petty tyrants sold my supplies on the black market to buy weapons to kill each other and the soldiers that were there on my behalf. Aid was neither received or wanted. We may as well just flew over and dumped bails of money out the plane's door.
But I digress. To quote Mr. Floy😛
"Every year is getting shorter; never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say."
I guess I don't see the parallels. I'm not suggesting that we donate our entertainment funds to Somalia or Mogadishu or Chad even. (Unless Chad happens to be cool guy who really needs a sixer of PBR) I'm pointing out the idiocy of willfully destroying the very thing you are investing in.. It'd be like spending my son's private school tuition money on a new Corvette and then setting it on fire right in front of him while I laugh at his bitter tears.
Just saying that of course there are better ways to spend money than on this crap. If the whole world spent their resources on helping those in need there would be no one in need. Then the focus of resources could be spent on making everyone's life better. 99% of the worlds population would have most everything they could want and then some. The top 1% would whine and piss because they didn't have yachts and Leers but screw them. lol
Most everyone wastes time and money. What you point out about Rylde is true, but "squalor" is relative. He's living indoors, eats regularly and has a job. One supposes he takes care of his family's needs. You point out that the excess is wasted trying to be impressive in our little crappy game and are correct. I'm merely pointing out that we are all guilty to a certain extent if we only waste time here.
Sorry kids, you are seeing the sour side of this pickle. 🙁
What are you talking about Dill I live in Squalor. I'm raising my new family including the pregnant GF and her kiddo in moms basement. Got no Job, mom keeps the internet up for me and erep. I'm only over weight because of moms cooking and I spent my weekly allowance on straight beer every chance I get.
Nobody cares about what you do with your money and how well you spend it in your parental endeavors. This isn't the place to even judge any of that. Making negative assumptions about the personal lives of people you just know online is such a waste of time. You only succeed in making yourself look like a coward.
The game sucks because the owners of the game approved poor design. You can't even blame the developers, because they just do what they are told. Yet what Rylde has been doing is the "last nail"? Did you compute that opinion with a potato?
Maybe if you spent less time logging in to see the status of someone else's personal life, maybe you'd know why your eDick hurts so much in this game.
And saying this is the worst online game? I don't think you even know what an "online game" is. If you did, you wouldn't make such a broad generalization - which you ended up doing anyways. There are a lot worse games than this and even more that never get published.
You have no excuse, there are literally a hundred free games out there, if you don't enjoy it here, then leave. And why you care so much as to make assumptions about people who may or may not exist as you know them to be is utterly pointless and only serves to make yourself look stupid.
(well that killed 15 minutes, my pie is done heating up, its cherry, cheers)
I know you're addressing Simulare but I wanted to say something. I have found a game, and some of my friends here have proceeded me. The damn thing is full of active, friendly people, plus a few malcontents causing trouble just to add some drama. 😃 So far I'm having a ball there.
I'd also point out that the name alone is definition enough. "Online game" is a game played online. D'oh!
Thx merc I wasn't going to dignify his crap comment with any kind of reply.
That took you 15 minutes to write? I guess that cements your position in eRep's demographic. And, yes, straight from the comfort of his mom's basement, Rylde managed to squeeze the last bit of fun out the game.
If calling that out makes me a coward, well, you win, sugar. I am a coward. However, you seem to be making assumptions about my personal life, my computational skills, my eDick, and my knowledge of online games - doesn't that make you, well, you get the point. Second thought, maybe you don't.
But look, I don't like arguing with girls, so, let's just agree to disagree. OK?
Simulare, everything I commented on was based off your response and didn't once question your personal life.
You not only make yourself look stupid with this reply, but also a coward by insulting an entire gender for no reason. I didn't once make an assumption about your personal life. Read and comprehend, you donut.
Just above is an example of what I did throughout my response. I insulted you. An insult isn't an "assumption" about your personal life. Comparing your intelligence to a donut, is an insult. I'm not literally questioning if you are a donut IRL.
Now I will make an assumption about your personal life: You must be some teenager who thinks it cool and empowering to blatantly harass people over the internet.
You should spend adequate time in your response if you are going to reply to someone, and even more time if you're going to take a difficult position to defend.
Next time when you get angry at someone over the internet, write it in a doc, save it, then email it it to your ass. At least then you don't look stupid online, having posted something inane, as you did.
(that "ass", burn was cute, so I left it in, have fun)
Mercy! You've figured me out. I will, as you say, email "my ass" when I have something mean to say. You don't happen to know my ass's email address you you? I'd ask my eDick since they probably know each other but it is apparently still hurt. I am sensing a theme in your comments. Its making me feel a tad uncomfortable. Are you sure you should be discussing such personal things with a person whom you believe to be a young, impressionable minor? Where's Chris Hansen when you need him?
I'm still alive 😨
For several hours on April 18th/Day 2706, an amazing total of zero articles were listed in eCanada's media. I think it marked the first time eCan's media had been completed blighted by 'nothing left to say and better things to say/do elsewhere.' Since it seemed such an important milestone in the 7 year history of this game, it seemed worth a screenshot, so here it is:
http://oi58.tinypic.com/2mpmueq.jpg
(should have captured the url as proof but you can tell it is ALL media listings because there is no little arrow over any of the 6 categories)
As a reference to one of Dill's dozen comments above (not to bring up donuts, though), please put me down for "Morbid fascination" as a reason for logging into this game on the odd occasion.
And one last thing: Dear Quimby, the Tralfamadorians miss you terribly but understand that's just the way it goes...
I'm guilty of many things I suppose. 🙂 I've bought gold. I've manipulated people (although I did it subtly so as not to upset anyone). I've let my temper get the best of me a couple times. Soon I intend to be one of those with the morbid fascination. Just waiting for...
Today eRepublik severs were turned off and the hard disks erased. Alexis Bonte, developer and CEO was on hand to officially pull the plug on the game. It was determined that the amount of login activity did not justify the expense of running the last remaining server. Hundreds, even thousands came to the game every day but no one bought gold or did any fighting. They worked, trained and shouted "Where the hell is everyone?" but no one answered.
And that's the way it was...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5tdqojA26E
...or almost was:
"The uploader has not made this video available in your country.
Sorry about that."
lol, I think the black screen with that message instead of Walter Cronkite's words is somehow more fitting. But anyway, despite being morbid about what's come of eRep, I gotta say the game once had something that can't be replicated on other platform.
Sure, most online games have communities, but eRep went beyond what others have accomplished (to be the best of my knowledge). I think it was the rabid political climate paired with the wonky but complex economy that gave the game its edge, and then the media module made it possible for both of these to flourish in a way that pulled in a lot of creative energy. The military module was essential to create competition and drive the markets but other games can do a better job delivering on that aspect, so it's dumbfounding how eRep Labs put all their eggs in the money-maker basket but neglected the many other reasons why the game once attracted thousands of players. Sure, a business has to make money but I think there were other ways to monetize how people played without tromping over all the priceless stuff players were creating in the communal sandbox.
When a game company is bought by a holdings company innovation is often put aside by profit making. The original companies product and innovation doesn't matter at that point because the whole operation is just a piece of paper in a bigger and richer companies pocket.
It happened to a business I worked for, small indie games developer. The owners got a payout and the business kept running but they stopped putting out new well-thought designs because this stuff cost money and would be risky.
If a piece of paper in a drawer makes you money every month, would you change it? And if in that same drawer were 100 other pieces of paper making you money would you even know what was on those pieces of paper? Unfortunately this may be why eRep is declining.
Well said, and in my opinion that was their "money maker". The war mod wasn't the golden goose. The other aspects kept us coming back. Gold for building corporate empires and communes was more important than health kits.
Aside from the personal attacks, which is never cool, this wee article had its desired effect. Keep on talking kids.
