Add referendums to eRepublik !

Day 3,337, 08:05 Published in Switzerland Belgium by Franckie18

Greetings eCitizens,

Master_rg's articles about his visit at eRepublik Labs gave me some hope concerning the future of the game. So I decided to make some articles proposing new features (from me or other players) more frequently than I did last year, starting today with an article concerning referendums.
Button similar to the "elections day"-button to warn citizens that they can vote on a referendum

First of all, the idea of an eRepublik referendum isn't mine. There have already been numerous people and articles suggesting this feature.

So let's start with it. What would be an eRepublik referendum ?

Adding referendums to eRepublik would mean Country Presidents and Dictators (and why not even Prime Ministers, in order to give them a concrete tool and not just a symbolic name) could ask once or twice a month the population of their eCountry their opinion about a specific subject. Citizens would then be able to answer by Yes or No to the question asked, just like for a normal law.

Example of a referendum

I'm not asking here to add a very complicated feature as you can see. I have no programming skills and can't say if this is difficult to implement in the game though. This could clearly stimulate some activity and involve citizens in basic politics.

I also don't see a lot of negative points to this feature, except for the fact that there could be troll referendums and this would give more work to the moderation team. But ensuring there is no troll referendum is also the citizens' task by electing a serious president that will appoint a serious prime minister (if prime ministers can also propose referendums).

I sincerely think admins should give ministers way more tools than they actually have. Currently, in-game ministers have nothing more than a shiny title on the country political page and on their own profile. They have literally nothing more. Please let ministers have tools and be more than just advisors !

An example of this would be to let :
- Prime Ministers : propose referendums
- Ministers of Foreign Affairs : propose MPPs
- Ministers of Defence : launch campaigns, set Campaign of the Day
- Ministers of Finance : propose new taxes, propose money donation laws to organisations

We could then imagine that Ministers would be unable to use their tools under a dictatorship.

This is ofcourse another subject than referendums, but I found it still relevant to mention it in this article.

As as conclusion I'd say that referendums are in my humble opinion a nice tool that could be implemented in eRepublik in order to stimulate some activity and to give more importance to the political system.

Giving different tools to ministers would be also a nice way to get more citizens involved into politics.

Of course those changes (if applied to the game) would not give eRepublik Labs more income immediatly, and this is probably why they won't make something like this get implemented, even if a proposition is really nice.

As a company, their objective is of course to make profit, and you can't blame them for aiming that. But I trully think that features like the referendums but also like endorsments are still profitable on the long term, as it may bring more citizens to the game, those citizens being potential custommers.

Thank you very much for reading ! If you have any suggestion to this feature or if you think of more negative impacts than I did, feel free to write a comment here bellow 😃

Thank you very much to the people who's names are listed right under, I always like to get some moneyzzz 😛
