[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 47

Day 2,622, 11:19 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Huey George

Introduction

As the latest Congressional term ends, a final 'A view from Parliament' from me. I will include all remaining law proposal I've yet to cover in an article this term as well as some thoughts about the "Resource Wars", where the re-distribution of the resources of the New World will occur which are about to begin.

Law Proposals

Natural enemy
France

I voted Yes. A retaliatory law proposal after the French Proposed ourselves as a Natural Enemy. I held my vote and as the French law proposal succeed my vote was cast. After all a natural enemy set against France is always a strong temptation.

The vote ended
28 YES votes to 2 NO votes
In France
20 YES votes to 2 NO votes

MPP
President of Thailand proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted Yes. A new powerful ally.

The vote ended;
30 YES votes to 3 NO votes in the UK
30 YES vote to 0 NO votes in Thailand

MPP
President of Ukraine proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted Yes. Ukraine has been an ally and friend often. I'd like to see this continue

The vote ended;
29 YES votes to 2 NO votes in the UK
28 YES vote to 1 NO votes in Ukraine

EDITED DAY 2,624 TO INCLUDE THE FINAL LAW PROPOSAL OF THE TERM

President of United Kingdom proposes to stop the trade with Poland

I voted No. Despite the recent decisions of the current Polish Government, I felt I and many of my constituents could consider the majority of the Polish citizenry as friends based on our shared good history and would still welcome their trade.

The voted ended;
24 YES votes to 12 NO votes

Resource

As many of you will be aware starting now, and during the Resource Wars event, countries will be able to choose the resources they’d like to have on their historical (core) regions (with the exception of the historical capital region). The President will arrange the resources in the order of importance, so the one they want the most comes first etc. The selection will be done by the President on a special page under the My Country menu. Read full details here.

The special page...

Our Country President has already asked Congress for suggestions as we need to make a list of resources for our regions. I'd like to extend the invitation to you my constituents.

The amount of resources in the New World will remain the same. Here is the list of industries and the amount of resources available provided by the admin:

Food industry
Deer, 29
Grain, 53
Cattle, 67
Fruits, 80
Fish, 84 (please notice that 74 will go to historical capitals of countries, so only 10 can be won in Resource Wars)

Weapon industry
Rubber, 17
Saltpeter, 25
Oil, 30
Aluminium, 39
Iron, 53

House industry
Granite, 7
Limestone, 14
Clay, 21
Wood, 23
Sand, 32

80% core region bonus on weapons, food and housing if possible...

My own personal thoughts at the moment are I'd like to see the United Kingdom try for a 80% core region bonus on weapons, food and housing. Specifically Iron, Aluminium, Oil and Saltpeter / Fish, Fruits, Cattle and Grain / Sand, Wood, Clay and Limestone.

Although realistically we may have to settle (settle maybe a little optimistic) for a 60% bonus for each industry as demand will be high, which would still equal an improvement to our current resource bonus balance.

I'd order the list Saltpeter, Oil, Limestone, Aluminium, Grain, Clay, Wood Cattle, Iron, Sand, Fruits to hopefully ensure 60% bonuses are achieved quickly for weapons and fairly quickly for housing and food.

Why not Deer, Rubber or Granite?

As these are the most sparse they will be the most popular and any country fortunate in obtaining any of these resources in their core regions will have to be on guard constantly from those without the bonus. In this sense it also may not be too wise to obtain Saltpeter even Oil (however 60% weapons bonus is a must in my book) or maybe Limestone as these could make the UK a target depending on which bonuses our neighboring countries choose.

Taking this thought one step further you could even secure the most common resources first to 60% to secure a modest set of resource bonuses which are less attractive to attack, leaving others to fight over the more rare resource bonuses.

The distribution I'd suggest would mix our food, housing and weapon bonus to ensure that losing a few neighbouring regions wouldn't impact on one industry too severely.

East Midlands, (Iron)
East of England, (Oil)
London, (Fish)
North East of England (Aluminium)
North West of England, (Saltpeter)
Northern Ireland, (Sand)
Scotland, (Cattle)
South East of England, (Fruit)
South West of England, (Clay)
Wales, (Wood)
West Midlands, (Grain)
Yorkshire & Humberside, (Limestone)

Is this the 'right' answer?, have I fully grasp the strategic implications?, have I really understood exactly how this resource re-distrubtion will work? Most likely not however I don't mind contributing some thoughts and look forward to a national discussion and the views of all UK citizens regarding this issue. As to answer 'yes' to the three questions above will take a united effort from all our citizery.
