[vCP] Why Invading Lithuania would Not be an Awfully Good Idea.

Day 2,181, 12:58 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Zaphod Beeblebrox IV

Hello Darlings, Zaphod here (the more attractive of the two Vice-Presidents) here with my first article of term. vCP is traditionally a position in which people have done f--- all. Perfect for me then, aye? Well no, since our evil master mwcerberus wants us writing articles and shiz.

Congress; you know where the impeach button is.😉

Now if you look through the eUK media at the moment you will find two articles in the top 5 which advocate the positives of invading Lithuania. You can find them here:

http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/2338584/1/20

Now whilst I admire their proactive approach, I cannot agree with them. Invading Lithuania would be a mistake for several reasons.

Firstly they are loyal allies.

There are 18 other members in two, and we have MPPs with a further 2 non-TWO nations (Argentina and Romania). Out of these "20 friends," Lithuania is one of the ones which I have most respect for. They have helped us out in countless wars from the Argentinian Airstrike, to our invasions of Germark. Players such as Martuxx and Adolf.H are always on #MoD saying Hello and calling fighters when needed.
A few months ago Acroc even wanted to award martuxx an honourary MBE for all the help he got during his term, especially with the war against Denmark.

When we think of allies helping us out, we tend to think of Poland or Spain muscling the enemy away with their supreme damage. But it is easy to forget the smaller nations who are just as loyal if not more so. Do throw away this bromance for one little resource would be silly.

Secondly the arguments for invasion make no sense. Here are some quotes from the two previously-mentioned articles that I will refute:

"They don't understand our passion for an empire, as they stand in the way of our deer. While they have been a part of TWO, our friendship has not been as strong with them as it has been with other TWO countries. Unless they are willing to let us have the deer, we should consider dropping them from our ally list."

This I find to be a very arrogant claim. UK should come first, and Lithuania should just deal with that. He does have a point though.
UK are a TWO nation, Lith are ACT.
UK have 1,574 active citizens, Lith only 1,345.
UK did 46,170,852,720 damage last month.
Lith did 42,415,027,610 damage.

While these stats do show UK to be slightly bigger, I do not believe that it makes us more important. Friendship is a reciprocal relationship, and when larger nations start to demand things from the smaller of the two, this can cause relationships to break up.

So if we're on equal footing, why should they get oil and deer, and we not get deer. That isn't very reciprocal?

Well firstly they get 2 new resources, whereas we'd only get 1. We cannot have both, so it makes sense for the region who'd get 2 new bonuses (lith) to benefit. For us to demand Deer would be greedy and illogical.

Now another point is the British Empire. "We want the glorious British Empire back!"

Now this is a fair point, but invading close allies is definitely not the way to do it. The eUK has in the past gained a reputation for being disloyal. This goes way back to mid-2009 when we allowed Hungary to attack our former allies Canada and effectively meant we switched side. Ever since then, we have been labelled as backstabbing and treachorous and to invade Lithuania would do nothing to help this. We need to remain loyal to our allies, or soon we will find ourselves with none left.

Besides war is on its way. UK's congress have recently unanimously passed a Natural Enemy on Finland. I cannot recall a time when we have ever fought directly fought Finland, so this is definitely a new challenge. Plus they are of a similar size so should provide a healthy challenge. There is even a chance we will keep some regions at the end in order to protect our friends Belarus.

tl;dr - why war with Lithuania is a no-no
They are loyal allies and good friends.
The economic benefit of Oil and Deer regions to them is much greater than it is to us.
We don't want to look like arseholes.
