[Talon] The Challenge of Politics

My Friends,

Politics is the best fun I have in the game. With close to ninety per cent of the vote I’ve successfully won another term as party president of The Unity Party. With thanks to those that have voted for me, I’d like to take a little time today to say why I love the challenge of politics so much, and why it seems to hook me in time and again- and I’ve asked a few friends to chip in too!

My own view:

First of all, winning is everything. That feeling on Election Day when the votes come rushing in and your name comes out on top, that makes all the hard work that came before it worthwhile. Secondly, for me it’s always given a sense of contributing to something greater than any one person, of adding to the greater part and accomplishing more together than you ever could on your own. Politics always seems to come down to self-interest, enlightened or otherwise, but by adding your own values to the greater melting pot and striving for unity, it seems to increase somehow.

So I guess there’s a bit of escapism in there, but also a way to express views and socialize.

What UK politics sometimes looks like

Now, what do others think? These views were gathered today from the UK IRC channel. I asked the question: ‘Why do you like politics?’

Mr Woldy wrote:

“ Because I like working people to improve the eUK really, and I feel that the game directs us into creating our own political framework to operate in independently of what is ingame, so in other words we can create our own game within the game based around our own community, and in doing so can create a fun and productive environment for those players interested in getting involved”

"I like making change and the debate keeps the game interesting… also obv the booze and hookers that come with a congress seat!"

The more politicians, the more caricatures of retards that would otherwise not exist. Politics is like an almost socially acceptable version of Big Brother, after all.”

“Eh', it gives me a chance to communicate and interact with people outside of who I'd usually gravitate to, whilst also giving me a party and a place to call home, And it gives me a chance to sit here and prove that yes, I am quite clearly the best.”

“I occasionally play the game of thrones, because everytime I stop, someone shows me why the eUK can't have nice things. I'll go on until we get some progress somewhere.”

“Why do I stay in politics? Probably because I care for my nation, as funny as that might seem, and I want to do the best I can in service to her and her people. That’s probably the biggest motivator for me, as well as seeking to do the best for my party who I honestly believe have the best ideas for the nation at this point in time.”

Talon is a crazy fruitcake. Don't mind him.

And now it's your turn.

Why do you like politics? Say so in the comments below!

Some of you may disagree with me too, and not enjoy politics in erepublik- I can certainly understand that viewpoint. If that's you, again say so below!

My final thought, then, is this: Politics is a challenge, but one that is very rewarding if you put the effort in and make some wise choices.
