"Stability v. Freedom"

Day 2,805, 21:01 Published in New Zealand New Zealand by Oboacer

Only a day has passed since Kiwis, over 60 of them sought to exercise their democratic vote in the Congressional elections. I would like to offer congratulations to all those who took party and to those who emerged victorious.

I still recall the feeling when I was first elected to Congress. The excitement, the immense responsibility and the honour of being chosen by your fellow citizens to cast judgement on the major issues affecting our tiny island paradise. Yet what made it so more important, was the voters had chosen to exercise their right and select you to be their voice.

Yet when our Congress prepares to assemble, when votes will be brought forward and when the issues our nation must consider, like Alliances, military actions, taxes etc are to be decided...will they cast their vote...Actually no...they won't...as it doesn't matter..

This is because we in NZ live in a dictatorship. Now, I'm not saying it is a horrible one and one faction is tossing its weight around to ensure that it gets what it wants. Far from it, we are one of the few countries, where our dictatorship is mostly in place not out of a sincere desire to suppress democracy but...to actually...retain stability at a time when our citizenship is small, our active players scattered and risk stand at all corners.

Now this being said I must pose a question...what is more just? Serving under a dictatorship and accepting a peaceful coexistence or allowing out people to exercise their democratic right and entrusting them to make the right decision?"

Now with one election (the first since I have returned to NZ) having passed us, another, the Country Presidency is fast approaching. It is why I feel that this is the moment when a conversation needs to be had, when all the political parties, military units and most importantly the citizens, need to have a discussion of what we want as we move forward.

The discussion has already begun within the Peace 'n' Prosperity Party and soon it will spread as other parties and citizens ask questions as we have accepted this new order without at least a new election where voters can directly decide if they want to continue in this system or possibly shake things up a little.

I'm asking you...the citizens of NZ...to take a moment and think about what you want for our little nation? What kind of a country and eDemocracy do we want? Over the coming days this debate will continue and we shall see where it ends up.

Till then...think hard...ask questions...oh...but have fun!

Cheers,
Oboacer,
PnPP Secretary General,
