[SColbert] Why I Play

Day 2,833, 23:22 Published in USA USA by SColbert

Hello Nation,

I have been feeling nostalgic recently. I often like to look back and see where it is that I came from. In this game I have made several twists and turns to get where I am. I went from 6th party rager against the machine, to a multiple term party president of USWP. At times like these I need to ask myself while it is that I play, and why it is that I have come to play the way I do. The following is based totally on memory, but they are the memories that have led me to develop my identity in this game.

When I began playing this game my name was Spiffy123. “Spiffy” had long been my alias when playing online games, but unfortunately it had been taken. Upon entering the game one of the first PMs I received was from Joseph Dinero who most recently is known for being the former VP of Cuba, but at the time was the PP of a 6th party called the Bastards of Liberty, or BoL. BoL was my first home, and I remember it fondly. While in BoL I met some of the awesome members of the time. Mazzy Cat, now my eMother, was one such member who I count as one of my earliest friends. I also met my long time e-lover, Wild Owl while in BoL, but he was not a member of the party. Joseph Dinero became my political mentor and friend. He's now e-dead, but I can still remember our long conversations about organizing a resistance to the elites.

In BoL I tried to be as active, and friendly as possible. I ran, and won the position of Member Representative. This position was created to be a direct line to the members of the party for their voice to be heard, and was the first elected position I ever held in the game. After a few months in the party I decided to run for PP. Little did I know that the party had become very partisan over the past few months, with rivaling factions forming between the more influential players. My campaign quickly devolved into bickering among party members, as I was seen as a mere extension of the establishment of the party. I went on to win the primary by a single vote. Within the first week of me being PP half of the party left, and by the second week I left as the only people still in were inactive.

From there I moved on to another 6th party called Vox Populi. I was following who I saw as my mentor, Joseph Dinero, who was PP of this new party, which was a combination of the remnant of BoL, and the Conservative Party. In Vox I served as the Chief of Staff for three months. During that time I worked to increase party membership and meta activity. I also met some good friends, like Haselrig, Torrin, DMV3, and Ghost of Tom Joad. I represented Vox in congress for 3 months, as well thanks to the good graces of the Feds, and Jefferson Locke in particular. Eventually I became PP for two months, on the platform to institutionalize 6th party power through what was known as the 6th Party Coalition, and by working in unison with DMV3 and his AIM projection that tried to unify PMUs.

After my second term I decided to leave what I had made for the 6th parties to the hands of others, with the idea that the party and Coalition can’t always depend on me to be there to help. I had grown very frustrated with an element within the party that was very anti-meta game, and what I saw as the supposed opposition to the Unity system not being willing to actually do the work necessary to bring it down. I wanted something better that could take on the elites in this game. I wanted to actually accomplish things to make the new player better off.

At this point it was May 2013, and I had solely been in 6th parties and the opposition my entire e-life. I yearned though for better organization, and decided I would only find it in the T5 parties. At first I joined the Feds for a few days, but it didn't turn out to be a good fit. After talking with Othere though I became impressed with the direction that USWP was taking, and decided to join. I quickly became the Director of Communications for USWP, and Deputy Secretary of Interior. When Othere took a leave of absence in the Interior Dept I stepped in and became Secretary of Interior.

Come October I ran for PP of USWP and won. I based my campaign on bringing in new players into leadership positions and increasing jobs available for those that wanted to get involved. I was successful in bringing in new players to leadership, and was very proud to help Kortanul get his career in politics started. My month in power was fun and exciting, but by the end of it was exhausted. I had started my Freshman year of college in September of that year, and was also on the varsity Cross Country team. I stayed in congress and continued what I still see as a fight to make things better.

I would go onto serve as Secretary of Media under Tyler Bubblar in his first term, but had to resign because I had walked in on one of my roommates trying to commit suicide. It made me question a lot of things in my life and the time I spent on this game seemed to be inconsequential. After this deeply scarring incident though, I came to see that many people in RL had begun to view me as damaged goods. People would rather feel sorry for me, or see me as oblivious to the place one of my best friends was in. It made me feel terrible myself. I was dealing with a lot of feelings. Most of which was how could I be so blind.

I came to the game within the month, as my RL had taken a turn. I needed community, and quickly found it. I would serve as Secretary of Homeland Security, and Speaker of the House. I also served another term as party president of USWP, all along staying in congress. It was during this time that I was thankful for the eRep community. It took me in during a time where I just needed some people in my life that wouldn't look at me with pity, or bewilderment in my short shortsightedness.

Eventually as things in RL returned to normal, I would serve two terms as Vice President under Trekker. I launched my own unsuccessful campaign for the presidency as well. The run taught me a lot, and was actually the most fun I had had playing eRep in awhile. Following my run I continued my service in congress, and also served as party president of USWP for my 3rd term. I have also served as Press Secretary to Tyler Bubblr, and BeachBunny in the mean time. While I have not had as much time in recent weeks to fulfill those duties do to RL, I have really enjoyed the position.

What though contributes the most to my fun in this game? Well after typing all of this history out I have to say it has always been the people for me. People are what make this game fun for me, not the political, military, economic, or media modules. People are the reason I log in each day. This game has given me a lot of great friends, presented me with struggles, and also has challenged me. It's been there when I needed, and I have given back to it whenever I could. I am up to challenges, and appreciate the ones this game brings to me. To me the people that make up this community are what keep me logging in everyday.

I guess Mr. Colbert gives my views on this game the best
