[MDP] A Vote for Tomorrow

Sorry for the wall of text. Once I started it kind of got away from me. There's a TL/DR at the bottom if you can't be bothered with the details.

Well my fellow eCanadians, the day has finally arrived. One month since we were denied a congress, we find ourselves completely restored and back in control of all our original regions. Go ahead and give yourselves a pat on the back, you deserve it.

But you know who else deserves it? Our Military Units. The people that give their time and real life money so that other people in this game can enjoy it even more. These are the true heroes of eCanada. They are the reason that the MDP first came into existence.

Do you know who else deserves our praise? Our allies. The people that moved here and fought in our RWs even though they didn't have to. The same people that didn't fight for their own country because they knew that as long as one of us got our region back it would be a win against Poland. People from the other side of the planet that in the big picture owe us nothing, but at some point in the past saw a Maple Leaf Flag hit from them so in our time of need they returned the favor. Those are the people we should be thanking for the election we're having tomorrow.

People have been asking in the comments of the other MDP Candidates articles what our platform is, and what we plan to work on in the coming month.

Those of you that know my history are probably well aware of the fact that I don't believe in platforms. A wise man once said, "Everyone's got a game plan, until they get kicked in the face." Well, in the eWorld the game mechanics are that kick in the face. I can't in good conscience make any promises that I know will be hard if not impossible to keep. I'm not built like that.

What I can say is that I'll show up everyday, give my honest opinion on any topic where it's appropriate and do my damnedest to make sure that eCanada is moving ever forward, and not being bogged down in the minutia and baggage that people refuse to let go of from the past.

The next 30 days do however come with some built in challenges. Tax Reform, MU funding, and constantly evolving alliance and MPP matters. On these topics the council has discussed what our official stance should be, and I'm proud of what was decided.

On the topic of tax reform the MDP will be focusing on split level taxation. That is to say food and weapons should be taxed differently. In the case of weapons the fact that we're taxing them, so that we have money to give to MUs so they can then turn around and buy more doesn't make sense. Taxing guns to buy guns is essentially selling your car to buy gas. It simply doesn't add up.

With food however the situation is different. With low food prices and most of the sales going to the ever present Bot rather then to players (which is the case with weapons) a higher tax rate on food makes sense. Will the higher tax rate on food hurt food producers? The easy answer is maybe, but unfortunately the money needs to come from somewhere, and I'd rather ding a food producer and get money from the bot, rather than charge the weapon producer and the player that happens to be buying their product. In this case one is better than two.

Now that we know where the money is coming from, the next question is where do we spend it. Aside from MPPs (which we'll get to next) Military Units are obviously the biggest cost to the Government. The idea of MU Funding reform has been floating around forever, and with diminishing income I think it's time that we finally took a serious stab at it.

The MDP supports eCanada's MUs. We will do everything in our power to make sure that funding continues and that those people who choose to be part of the MUs are given every chance to succeed. We are however realists. You can't expect to give MUs more than we take in. It's simply not possible. Which is why we also believe in pushing a Sustainability Policy when it comes to MUs. Each MU needs to be "encouraged" to take steps that should funding end tomorrow they won't quickly wither and turn to dust. MU funding with a focus on developing infrastructure will be our goal in the coming month.

The last of the three ever present topics is MPPs. Of the three things that will be up for debate on the morning of the 26th, this is probably the most difficult to gauge, and the most important in the long run. Where we end up in the latest shuffling of the cards could have long term costs or benefits.

It's my understanding that we are at a crossroads. We have 2 clear paths ahead of us, and it's getting to a point where a decision must be made or it will be made for us. I don't have all the specifics since I am not currently privy to all of the information (officially at least) and will need to reserve judgment until I'm given all of the pertinent facts.

What I can tell you right now is that not having a DO because eCanada nor any of our allies currently having a battle is unacceptable. People need to be able to fight. The easiest way to do that in the most cost effective way to build an MPP stack that covers the most theatres with as few MPPs as possible. One MPP that's always fighting is better than 3 MPPs that are rarely fighting.

TL/DR

The reason you should vote for the MDP tomorrow can be summed up with simply 1 word. Support.

We Support Our Military Units.
We Support Our Allies.
We Support A True North Strong and Free.
