Dear eWorld,

Next Wednesday will be my 5th eBirthday, so I thought I'd reflect on what I've experienced in five years of eRepublik. I also plan to do a series of articles in which you can get free things or prizes over the next week, so be sure to keep up! 🙂

This Article.. The Seven Deadly Sins

I feel that the best way to sum up my experience is through the Seven Deadly Sins, and hopefully give everybody something to think on to make the game a better place. While my time in eRepublik has seen many positives, the negatives are what stick in all of our minds.

Lust

I've been in several eCountries over my time - all in opposing alliances at some point, all made up of different people. The thing they all had in common? Theft. All too often, the experience of an entire community has been ruined by somebody who gave in to such a basic urge, and stole the treasury of a country. The Admins have yet to implement an effect policy about this. The hard work of hundreds goes to waste at the click of a button, and it still happens all too often.

Gluttony

In eRepublik, the downfall of many has been their inability to avoid over-indulging on things, be it money or power. In nearly every country, I encountered little groups of 5 - 10 people who tried their hardest to maintain power that they didn't even need. If people tried to take that power from them, in response they tried to take the entire country down. Such cliques help nobody and ruin the experience for everybody else when things inevitably go wrong.

Greed

Perhaps the biggest of the sins you'll come across, it needs no explanation. We can all find dozens of examples of Greed. From people scamming others to make a quick few thousand currency, to witnessing the bullying of people out of the game because somebody doesn't want another person to catch them up.

Sloth

We all have the ability to make the game better, to help our comrades that little bit more. Some however are content to retain the status quo. I'm sure everybody can name a player that has 30 congress medals and maybe even 2-3 CP medals, yet can't recall anything they've actually done to earn it.

Wrath

I'll keep this one short and simple - do real life differences really need to dictate the state of our game? There are good qualities in everybody in the world, real life nationality doesn't change that.

Envy

Too often I've seen 2-3 "MasterCard Warriors" fight it out one week to prove who's got the most money to show off. Yet, everybody encourages this - we encourage the wreckless spending of €2k - €3k a week on gold just for 2 people to prove a point, an amount of money that in parts of the world could save the lives of dozens of families. So long as they get their medals, right?

Pride

One sad theme on this game arises from a big positive, that you play with people from literally all over the world. I've come across people who have almost no material possessions, both in game and in real life. From the same community, there's always that person who spends $100s a week on gold to tank. Such people demand respect for what they do, telling their countrymen that it serves only to help them. Most will even make out that they're better than the rest of us for it. Are they really heroes?

Be under no illusions, such people do this only for pride. For more badges on their profile, for more people to tell them how great they are. Unfortunately the game has developed a culture where selfless acts are completely eclipsed by the acts of these people who give to nobody but themselves.

So, apologies for the long article! Thank you to those who read it. 🙂 If you want the game to be better too, remember that the power to make it happen is yours.
