I`d like to take this oppurtunity to personally thank congress tonite for making an already difficult job even harder. Again you have my thanks for turning down the slight tax increase yesterday.
Were reaching the point where we are no longer wiped and congress doesn`t seem to understand that were returning out taxes to the levels they were at pre war. I guess your elected body hasn`t been paying attention and still thinks were wiped. Time to crawl out from under your rocks and rejoin the rest of the country.
With this act congress has also decided that the country no longer needs MPP`s with its new allies and friends which will be up for renewal in the next week. were only sitting beside a pissed off vengeful petty neighbor that harbours grudges and is looking for revenge. But MPP`s meh who needs them right.
We may be attacked again shortly so any extra cash that can be squeezed into the treasury is for the better.
In other terms quit f*cking around congress and do the goddamn job you were f*cking elected to do.
Your country needs that money for its own protection make the taxes 2% across the board already...

That's funny because the discussion on my tax proposal has nearly everyone against an increase in taxes and claiming it is all downside. They claim it will bankrupt them. Lots of fear mongering going on right now regarding a tax increase.
Shaun: I think you missed my point... we're talking procedures here for voting. Should there be consensus before taking a vote ingame, or just go ahead and risk a motion being defeated? My point was there no real downside, as far as game mechanics go, to doing the vote ingame even if there is no clear consensus.

Use your ingame proposal right now, if you want. In my opinion, I don't waste mine, yesterday even if the VAT increased didn't pass. See now, I hope everyone see the need of a tax increased.
It is just that we should of had the votes lined up first, not that there was anything wrong with the proposal.

I just wanted the public to know how congress is hurting the country with this move. I felt a blanket statement was nessary to make my point and get congress on track.
Congress has been debating the tax issue. The problem is extreme disagreement over the issue. I'm waiting for the 24 hour debate period to end to put my proposal up for a vote.

Ya know, everyone seems to enjoy the fun when we are fighting. Yes there are those who pine that we "should love everyone" and not fight but the majority enjoy the fight. Now it's time to pay the piper and we turn into a bunch of cowards.
I say we do the 2% increase for VAT right away. It has been discussed to death in Congress, nothing left to say. We need the damned money for the govt. to do what we need, have allies. Piss and moan we don't have allies and now no one wants to pay for that privilege.
Next I would like to continue the debate of at least temporarily raising the WT to 4% as that would do the most good the fastest. If it proves untenable then we can discuss lowering it back to 2% in a few weeks after we recover some funds.
Bottom line is the govt can't run on charity when everyone is not giving. Taxes make sure everyone is giving.

Since Canada's gold reserve is sufficient enough to cover over 40 MPPs, why was there a need to raise taxes?
Because we already spent 600 gold last month, and gold is supposed to be a reserve, not a way to pay for our MPPs.
I feel like it should be the other way around for when it's right to have higher taxes during peace or war.

Funky - that's backwards. We lose a large percentage of tax revenue during wartime occupation. eRep economics are different than RL.

War against Canada in eRep usually involves a period of occupation...
When a foreign power occupies your territory, they get a percentage of your taxes. For example when the USA had half our territory, they got (roughly) half our tax revenue too. So it's actually BAD to have high taxes during war, cause it just makes your enemy richer.
