First, many thanks to davidselva for publishing this tribute article for me. It is also a story with a moral which is crucial for India.

Today, one of my closest friends in this game, mekongwhisky, decided to quit. Not many of you guys know him – he has been a pretty quiet presence lately. He’s Bulgarian, but he’s still one of the awesomest eIndians I knew. And that’s no mean feat.

I really hope for him, that his decision to quit is incredibly successful, and he manages to stay away from the game.

That led to recalling distant memories of a fine motley bunch of guys, who I like to call the Expendables.

From left to right: Teutonic Caesaris (Xicor13), Samnomix (Uv Ajed), Dushyanth, omegagamer, Troj4n20 (the boss), Exibot, mekongwhisky, ArawnLives, Alector

I’m the guy on the right. Well, he’s Chinese, so that’s not wholly accurate…

Joking aside. This was a fine group of people, who all figured that the ancient party, Democratic Party of India, promoted by the likes of people like vigi, and now a footnote in history, needed revival. A new voice to break the tedious two party system in India.

A third party was erroneously created by a well-intentioned citizen who failed to recognise the dangers of creating a party that could be vulnerable to PTOers. We teamed up with this girl, persianprincess (Hamturk has VERY fond memories of her xD), and when the relationship got bad, she left to create the short-lived iNCi India. And we went on to create one of the closest and most tight knit communities I have ever had the pleasure to be part of. Awesome noobs like Ashphalt and Forter came and prospered. DPI was awesome. The media activity was huge.

The death of this party was not pretty however. DPI slid into inactivity after a few months at the top. Member turned against member – for example, mine and Uv Ajed’s relationship got frosty, a relationship which was only stopped from deteriorating by the well-intentioned Arawn. Member after member quit the game. It ended a farce.

There are still some remains of DPI around. Forward Bloc is a fragment clinging on to life, for example. The party ‘India First’ employs much of the imagery the old DPI used.

Wistful thinking aside. There is a moral to this story. The story of DPI is very much the story of eIndia. We used to be a small, enthusiastic, active community. It has now descended into farce. You know, why don’t we just break free of the status quo here? The same old parties, the same old people pondering around and moaning. Why not change all that?

This game is essentially a sandbox. You make your own fun. The fact you are all here is because you’re hoping this game will get better. It won’t. So why not make it better yourselves? Fearing for your future is not good – eIndia’s current foreign affairs situation is an opportunity. Seize the chance, and enjoy yourselves! Exibot and troj4n20 taught me that, and I forgot it, much to my own sorrow.

And yes, I’m looking at my fellow oldfags too. You damned lot better take the lead. Who better?

In the meantime:

A salute of honour to mekongwhisky, one of the finest.
