#89 Two Years of eRepublik - The Changes

Day 2,342, 16:41 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Gambit8

Hello Readers,

It’s been two years since I’ve been here and needless to say, a lot has changed, but of course at the same time not a lot has changed at all. It’s always intimidating to return to a game, especially one such as this where everything about it is so fluid. Alliances change, political parties change, MUs change, territories change, county strength changes (Chile and Croatia, I’m looking at you) and most of all the community changes.

The Changes

The Community

This one I can’t stress enough how big this has changed, probably 70% of all my friends on my friends list are dead (in-game that is), I may notice this change because my role in eRepublik was very community based I was even CO in the British Army at one point but found it was too much work for very little enjoyment and so I accidentally rage-quit the army, there was too little community-feel of it, it was literally just going through about 50-100 people giving out supplies (this was before MUs were implemented mind you).

I also joined the ESO (Every Single One) party and this place was definitely for me, a lot of community there and I made a lot of friends, it was very relaxed too, I found this game to be quite intense sometimes and at times more of a chore than a game, I can’t really say if all political parties are like this but this one was very friendly and less about the politics as it was helping people such as giving out free food and generally help them out whether it be getting an avatar, signing up for that horrible IRC or just basic in-game stuff.

But alas the community has changed, the only people I know now is the exceptionally wonderful Roz and Jamesw, our one true emperor (although I heard he stole some of his own money when he was CP or something, I don’t know). As well as this the party has changed, it’s not doing as well as it used to, a lot of the players left the game - guilty face - and what was a top party competing for CP and the majority of congress each month became one of the least populated party, but I’m sure the good old ESO spirit lies in there somewhere still.

Also Romper isn’t a massive deal anymore

Alliances

Now this one is probably the most shocking change, as it naturally would be, although which is more shocking, the changes in alliances or the fact that the admins actually implemented something remotely useful into the game? Yes, that whole official alliance thing that’s going on seems pretty cool but upon clicking on that tab I was sad to find not a single alliance that I recognised. EDEN for a start was dead, the oldest alliance in the game was just gone and I couldn’t actually find a reason for why nor on the existing alliance page of EDEN nor the wiki which I found rather unusual, at the time when I was playing the strength and unity of Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria seemed to have been unbreaking, especially since there wasn’t much in-fighting like the likes of ONE.

ONE was a very different alliance, plenty of in-fighting, partly due to the fact they were the aggressors to the war between EDEN and Terra, and in fact they were winning in part, but more importantly because ONE consisted of the top countries in the world at the time such as Hungary, Spain, Serbia, Poland and Macedonia, and well, they kind of got greedy for land and wanted more than they could have leading to in-fighting and petty squabbles over who gets what land.

Now however the UK’s long lasting relationship with Serbia is gone and in fact we’re only just getting rid of the final Serbian PTOers which is rather surprising. When I returned to the game I was actually a citizen of Slovenia (a previous ally of the UK and ONE member (I believe)) but because I was so disoriented about who is allies with who I had to return to the UK to get my bearings and obviously to not be a filthy traitor fighting for the enemy and such.

Chile surprised me, not only do they actually have people in their county but they’ve even managed to wiggle - smash - their way into europe, they even got to top score on the country rankings, apparently if they get to 4,000 points then they become an empire...which affects nothing according to the wiki, it wasn’t very clear what that is.
Also Pakistan… in Belgium. I don’t even…
…..
...What?!?

Some Things Never Change

Some things indeed, never change. The admins are still milking gold out of everybody, the economy is beyond repair and the only way you can make an impact in any battle is if you’re a billionaire… and even then. And with all this money that the admins are getting they have added a massive, humongous, outrageously large number of new countries to the game coming to a grand total of zero.

I’ve left and rejoined this game twice now, and both times the UK have done...nothing. Like literally, we still just out the UK. The first time I played the UK was like, “lol we’re going to take Norway”, “lol Valhalla”. Two days later we’re back to square one. The second time we took a bit of Canada and then...back to square one again. Admittedly at one point we did take all of Ireland and part of Canada (Jamesw power activated) but it didn’t last long, and I come back this time and we’re losing against Pakistan while trying to retake Belgium (although I heard that was a tactical loss).

Also Serbia being Serbia and Poland being Poland didn’t change very much.

Why is Macedonia in Australia?
Why is Croatia in India?
Why is North Korea on the map?

These are the big questions, or maybe they’re not because, nothing really changes after all.

Thanks for reading everybody, hoped you liked the article. As always leave comments, I always love to hear your thoughts as well as constructive criticism. I hope you didn’t fall asleep while reading this but I wouldn’t blame you, it’s a long article...and pointless.
